Influence a mindset shift about the American Muslim public, which is very different from the Muslim beliefs and practices most commonly purported in the media. Diffuse prejudices against American Muslims. Combat “Islamaphobia” created by well-funded conservative sects that major media is inherently attracted to.
We counter radical fundamentalist narratives on the ground and at the policy level with education. *We partner with Imams and religious scholars to ensure that human rights are upheld and not denied on the basis of culture, theology or theocracy. *Muslims for Progressive Values is THE Muslim faith-based human rights organization with Consultative Status at the United Nations. *We debunk and challenge human rights abuses in Muslim-majority countries perpetuated in the name of Sharia law. *When Muslims are jailed for unjust reasons, they turn to MPV for support. *We are a progressive American Muslim movement with 8 chapters in the U.S. and affiliates in 18 cities and countries and growing. *We don't apologize for being Muslim nor are we apologists
OUR MISSION
We advocate for human rights, social justice and inclusion in the United States and around the world by inculcating a culture rooted in human rights through public education, advocacy, and the arts.
“I follow the Way of Love, and where Love's caravan takes its path, there is my religion, my faith.”
WHAT WE DO
We advocate for women and LGBTQIA+ rights, for the separation of religion and state, and for freedom of conscience. In advancing these human rights values, MPV provides an alternative progressive voice to these issues by participating in civil discourse, engaging with the media and government entities, with public educational forums as well as cultural events, and by partnering with both Muslim and non-Muslim progressive organizations.
Since our inception, we have secured the Department of Public Information and Economic and Social Council Special Consultative Status at the U.N., challenging much of the human rights abuses in Muslim societies.
